The story on Murphy's poker chips is that Murphy wanted to start up his own
poker room. Being the impatient type, he wasn't too concerned about
technicalities like legal permits and such. Murphy just went right ahead and started
investing money into his new poker room. One of the first things he
did is to have these poker chips designed. Unfortunately for poor Murphy he
was never granted a permit to operate his poker room and alas, his dream of
owning his own poker room came to a crashing halt. A chip
manufacturer eventually purchased his design and the result is well, unspectacular to
put it kindly.
I'd like to think these poker chips might be indicative of old Murphy's personality. The colors are jarring and disorganized. The coin inlays look nice enough, but the composite resin surrounding the coins feels like cheap plastic. When dropped on one another the chips even sound like the plastic poker chips with metal inserts that you might purchase at your local Walmart. For what it's worth, these poker chips do seem to be sturdy enough. No matter what I tried, I was not able to pull one of the metal coins away from the chip. The coins themselves look ok. If I had to play in a home poker game with these chips, I'd almost rather just play with the coins themselves without the surrounding chip. The two pink and blue chips are particularly ugly in my opinion.
Considering that these chips are only slightly cheaper than Paulson chips, why on earth anyone would purchase these I don't know. If you're dead set on buying a set of poker chips with coin inlays, then I would advise looking elsewhere. I may be slightly biased as I'm a clay man myself, but I wouldn't purchase these chips for .10 cents each, let alone $1.00 per chip.
