Not sure if you’re a winning player or not? Are you wary of making that first deposit at a real poker room? Then set up the program to emulate play at Party Poker’s $.50/$1 tables. You can breeze through 10k hands relatively quickly and end up with a pretty accurate depiction as to whether you’re ready for the real deal or not. Checking your player statistics will give you everything you need to gauge your progress as a player, from the total amount won or lost, to how much in rake you paid. The different limits you can select already provide a pretty accurate rendition of the type of play you’d expect in real life. You can further tweak the settings of the individual bots at the tables to mimic the play at specific poker rooms. For instance if you plan on playing low limits at Pacific Poker, then you can loosen the bots up a bit. If you’re going to play middle limits at Paradise, then you can tighten them up and make them a bit trickier. You can even set the rake to match that of specific rooms like Poker Stars, Ultimate Bet, and even the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas. The bot AI is exceptional. I expected predictable play, but bots like vexbot actually adapt to your play. When playing Vexbot (one of the heads up bots) I was repeatedly taken offguard by some of the plays it made. It will actually attempt to “read” your playing style and adapt to it. You can configure it to concentrate on exploiting your play based on patterns it has already picked up by using the exploitation setting, or you can increase its exploration setting. This instructs the bot to put a heavier emphasis on further evaluation of your play in order to discover new weaknesses. If your heads up play is weak, a couple days alone with Vexbot should strengthen your game significantly. Poker Academy Pro 2.0 has bots for both
limit and no-limit games, in varying degrees of difficulty and trickiness. For
instance you can add Oddbot to your table. He’s a bot whose playing style
is, well, odd. This bot will mix up his play so much, you won’t be
able to put a read on him. One of the bots uses David Sklansky's No Limit
Tournament Strategy as a playing guide. You can
even vary which system he uses. All of the bots can be tweaked to some
extent. If you spend enough time with the settings, you’ll be able to mimic
just about any type of table environment you can imagine.
