If you hang out at some of the more serious poker forums where the heavy grinders chat, you’ll often hear guys ask “Where can I find the loosest games online?  Where do the grinders play at?”  And the internet pros will always respond “Party Poker” and possibly add a few more spots like Pacific Poker or even Paradise. 

What these guys won’t tell you is that many of them make a living playing online poker at Bodog.  This is kind of a secret spot for internet poker grinders in that the players at the lower to mid limits are just god-awful.  And when I say awful, I mean really awful “but it was suited!” re-raises with 10-3 pre-flop awful.  Even the high limit tables have an unusual amount of soft players. 

Many of the high rollers from Bodog’s casino wander into their poker room because perhaps they’ve recently watched some poker on TV or have seen Bodog's advertising and think it looks like fun.  The beautiful thing is that these guys heading in from the casino are in a gambling mind frame.  Playing serious poker, calculating outs and odds is hard work and these guys aren’t there to do that.  These guys are there to gamble and have some fun.  So in essence they’re there to donate their bankrolls to you. 

Bodog originated as a popular sportsbook in early 1995 which was in turn followed by the addition of a casino.  It wasn’t until September 2004 that they launched their poker room.  It was followed by a heavy, aggressive blitz of advertising reminiscent of Party Poker.  Their target audience is predominantly young, male, and with-it.  Bodog’s advertising is some of the most effective in the industry.

It kind of goes like this; guys see or hear their friends talk about the WSOP and make the conclusion that “The WSOP is cool.”  Then they hear their favorite radio DJ like for instance Howard Stern talk about Bodog and the WSOP and then think “Bodog is cool.”  They then develop the following equation;  “Poker = cool”  therefore “WSOP = cool” therefore “Bodog = cool.” So if I play poker at Bodog, “I am cool!”  And so begins the influx of clueless fish to Bodog.

So how are their games?  Loose, passive, and profitable.  If you have a basic understanding of starting hand requirements, a sound knowledge of basic poker strategy, and some small amount of discipline, you will earn money at Bodog.  The players really are just lousy.  Watch a few games for a bit and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be opening your Neteller account within minutes to figure out how much to buy-in with.  Most of the action is at the no-limit tables.  The limit tables are decent but you’ll find the majority of the fish at the low-mid NL tables. 

Their software isn’t flashy, but it’s fast, easy to follow, and does it’s job.  They don’t offer the largest deposit bonuses but they do make up for it in their own unique way.  Have you ever deposited a small amount of cash at a poker site in order to try it out, and then wish you’d deposited more because you wasted your 1^st time deposit bonus on $50?  At Bodog they offer unlimited 10% deposit bonuses which is unique in the poker industry.  Bodog is also highly trustworthy.  They’ve been in the gambling industry since 1995 and are one of the most respected outfits in poker.  I’d feel very safe entrusting a very large poker bankroll with Bodog.

Overall I give Bodog Poker extremely high marks.  Their games are loose and passive, their players are soft, and the site is trustworthy.  My only regret is that I didn’t start playing at Bodog sooner.
